The San Diego Union-Tribune won
the black-and-white division and The Gleaner in Henderson, Ky., won the color
division in the 2003 Inland/Anitec Print Quality competition.
Judges picked Best-in-Show winners
from the first-place winners in four circulation categories. Entries were
submitted by 125 newspapers.
According to the judges, the
Union-Tribune entry, which won in the over 50,000 circulation category,
displayed good tones and produced an excellent reproduction of a sample contest
picture.
In the 10,000-20,000 category, the
first-place Gleaner entry held true to the proof and matched the color
perfectly, judges said.
Judges in the competition were Mary
Van Meter, publisher of Newspapers & Technology, John Nicoli, technical
sales manager for Bob Ray & Associates and Ray Reinertson, vice president of
newspapers for Chromaticity Inc. and founder of ReinTech, a consulting firm.
The competition is co-sponsored by
Inland Press Association and film and plate vendor Anitec.
