PRESS

Inland Newspaper Machinery Corp. sold two four-unit Goss International Corp. Urbanite presses to a Honduran newspaper. The presses were originally owned by Paxton Media in Paducah, Ky.

Additionally, Inland in early 2008 shipped a four-unit Harris V15C press to a customer in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and an eight-unit Urbanite to Peru.

Finally, Inland said it has added to its offerings an Urbanite press formerly owned by Paxton Media in Indiana; a seven-unit Urbanite in Baytown, Texas; and a 12-unit Urbanite in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

QuadTech Inc. said it sold a color control system, Register Guidance System and Ribbon Control System to Maser Printing and Publishing in Dubai. It marks the first deployment of QTI’s technology in the Middle East, the firm said.

INDUSTRY

The Miami Herald and South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale are swapping responsibility for delivering papers in their respective markets. The Herald will deliver the Sun-Sentinel in Miami and Dade County while the Sun-Sentinel delivers The Herald, El Nuevo Herald and USA Today in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

 

 Dow Jones & Co. acquired Betten Financial News BV, a Dutch newswire that will be combined with DJ’s existing Dutch-language news service. No financial terms were disclosed.

 

The New York Times Co. purchased the News Chief Publishing Group in Winter Haven, Fla., from GateHouse Media Inc. The purchase did not include the News Chief’s production plant. Nelson Kirkland, advertising director of The Ledger in Lakeland, Fla., was named publisher of the News Chief, which will continue to operate under its own banner.

Integrated Color Solutions tapped Coralis in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to distribute its Remote Director software in Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.

Fusion Systems International rolled out Publication Proofing System version 2.0, a Web-based soft proofing workflow app for newspapers and publishers.

New features include advanced controls for automated post-RIP page-pairing and imposition, integration with popular imposition applications, job approval and rejection control and file-flow automation based on standardized publication naming conventions.

Dynagram released INposition version 7.3, its QuarkXPress XTension. The new version offers increased performance and compatibility, Dynagram said.

The app now runs natively on both Intel and PowerPC-based Macintosh processors and offers new compatibility with apps including Mac OS X.5 (Leopard), Adobe Acrobat 8.0 and Adobe InDesign CS3.
