Screen (USA) promoted Scott Benson to the newly created position of product coordinator for CTP/Workflow.

 

Kodak’s Graphic Communication Group promoted David Martin and Richard Lloyd to new positions in the newspaper segment. Martin was named national and strategic account manager, while Lloyd was named solution sales manager for the newspaper segment’s Central North region.

 

CCI Europe named Audrey Glenn as marketing and communications manager.

 

La Toya Hodge was named manager of marketing com-munications by Agfa.
 

International Color Quality Club winners

WASHINGTON — Members of the most recent class to be welcomed into the International Newspaper Color Quality Club were honored at a ceremony during Nexpo.

The winners were chosen among 198 newspapers from 39 countries that participated in the worldwide newspaper printing quality competition backed by the Newspaper Association of America, Ifra and the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association.

First-time and sole U.S. winner Grand Rapids (Mich.) Press was represented by Mike Novak, pressroom manager and Aaron Phipps, assistant production manager. The Press printed its winning entry using a GeoMAN 75 shaftless press from MAN Roland.

Anthony Cheng, senior vice president at Singapore Press Holdings, won four awards. The publisher uses equipment from Goss International Corp. at its main printing center.

Lee Enterprises Inc. promoted Suzanna Frank from director of research and marketing to the new position of vice president, audience. Lee also appointed Nancy L. Green to vice president of circulation for Lee St. Louis and president of STL Distribution Services. David Braton will succeed her as publisher of the Waterloo Courier in Waterloo-Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Gannett Ring winners honored

Bill Taylor, operations director at the Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat, was named production executive of the year by Gannett for his outstanding performance in 2007. Others recognized with a President’s Ring were Tom Travis, the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., first runner-up; and Bob Walters, the Journal News, Westchester County, N.Y.; second runner-up.

They were joined by Bill Bolger, the Indianapolis Star; Bob Kotwasinski, the (Phoenix) Arizona Republic; Jack Roth, Asbury Park (N.J.) Press; Tom Barcikowski, Chillicothe (Ohio) Gazette; Kevin Crane, Gannett Central New York Production Facility, Binghamton, N.Y.; Keith Pierce, Detroit Media partnership; and Mike Monscour, the News-Press, Fort Myers, Fla.

Meantime, five IT executives were also recognized for their work. They are Phil Legler, Wisconsin Newspapers; Gary Shawd, the Courier-Journal; Sidney Fung, Gannett Michigan; Dee Dee Gober, Pacific Newspaper Group; and John Parish, the Journal News.

 

Janet Owen joined The Register-Guard in Eugene, Ore., as production director.

 

E.W. Scripps Co. named Javier J. Aldape vice president of niche products for the company’s newspaper  division.

 

The Los Angeles Newspaper Group named Brent W. Morris as vice president of interactive.

 

Gannett named Kate Marymount vice president of Information Center Content. She formerly served as executive editor of The News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla.

 

OBITUARIES

Dick Williams, an original founder of Presstek Inc., died after an extended illness. He was 73. Mr. Williams served as Presstek’s chief technology officer until his retirement in 2003. He also served as chairman of Presstek’s board of directors from 1998 to 2004.
