The News Tribune and The Olympian (Washington state) will move their printing and ad-inserting from Tacoma to other printers in the region early in 2019, the News Tribune reported.
The move is mostly due to the age of the presses at The News Tribune, which started printing The Olympian around ten years ago, the News Tribune says.
“The cost of maintaining and updating presses that old is prohibitive, as is replacing them,” said David Zeeck, the newspapers’ publisher.
He said the change will not affect delivery to print readers. Impacted employees will get severance payments, the continuation of company-subsidized health care benefits and outplacement help, Zeeck said.
McClatchy owns the papers.
