In this role you will be responsible for managing a team of reporters assigned to covering local and regional business.  Content includes breaking corporate deals; consumer and retail trends; workforce and labor issues; matters of personal finance; taxation of income and retail goods and services; Lancaster County’s largest industries; and the people behind local commerce through informative and entertaining profiles.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and facilitate the work of a reporting team dedicated to generating content that is fair, balanced, accurate, compelling, and makes a positive impact in the communities we serve.
  • Work closely with the Managing Editor for Content and team members to select the most appropriate content for print and digital products to engage the audience.
  • Assign and edit copy as well as write web-friendly headlines as needed.
  • Use metrics/analytics to inform decisions on content assignments and placement across platforms.
  • Foster a newsroom work environment that champions excellent journalist, creativity, collaboration, teamwork, and a sense of fulfillment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in administration and supervision in a newsroom environment preferred  
  • Prior experience in writing and managing the production of business content is preferred
  • Excellent writing, editing and interpersonal communication skills required
  • Facility with data, statistics, economics, business and accounting
  • Previous experience using wire services and publishing systems for all platforms
  • Fluency in Web and social media technology as well as advanced knowledge of digital metrics and SEO
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a mixed-media team environment and to multitask in a deadline-driven newsroom
  • Thorough familiarity with journalism and libel law
