Paxton Media Group has acquired five papers from The Kentucky New Era Media Group, The Eagle Post reported.

The purchase included Kentucky papers the New Era, The Eagle Post, the Dawson Springs Progress, the Princeton Times Leader and the Providence Journal-Enterprise.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Paxton’s western Kentucky Group Publisher Mike Weafer will run the papers, The Eagle Post reported.

“Paxton has the tools and operational scale necessary to prepare, but also propel, the New Era and its sister papers for the opportunities that lie ahead,” said former publisher-editor Taylor W. Hayes. “I cannot express adequately the gratitude and thanks of our family to all employees, past and present, who served our readers, customers and communities through the years.”

Paxton now has over 35 dailies and various weeklies in Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee, the paper says.
