Seattle-based Sound Publishing has bought the Juneau Empire and Capital City Weekly (Alaska) from GateHouse Media, the Juneau Empire reported.

Sound Publishing is a subsidiary of Black Press, a British Columbia-based company with publications in Canada, Washington, Hawaii and California.

Sound Publishing also purchased the Peninsula Clarion in Kenai and Homer News from GateHouse.

Juneau Empire Publisher Joe Leong, who also serves as publisher of the Peninsula Clarion and Homer News, said he'll be moving to GateHouse Western Division headquarters in the Lower 48. A replacement for Leong was not announced.

Sound Publishing President Gloria Fletcher told Empire employees there are not any large changes planned at the moment, the paper reported.
